This week, NJ.com published a special report examining murder-suicides across New Jersey, uncovering troubling patterns of warning signs, missed opportunities for intervention and systemic challenges that can leave survivors without the protection they need.

The report includes the story of Michele Sabia, who was killed by her husband in 2016, and the advocacy of her parents, Pete and Jackie Miragliotta, who have dedicated themselves to helping other families and supporting Center for Hope & Safety.

Their story illustrates an important reality: Domestic violence does not always involve physical abuse. Recognizing coercive control, intimidation and other warning signs is essential to protecting victims and preventing future tragedies.
